Spruit Clean Up

Spruit Day is a simultaneously timed effort by resident associations and stakeholder groups to tackle environmental issues along the Braamfontein Spruit.

Sponsors Needed!

One of the key objectives of the Residents Association is the beautification and cleanliness of the neighbourhood. Parkhurst has the support of the City of Johannesburg, through an active Councillor and an involved City Parks region, and the volunteer efforts of the residents helps achieve a considerable amount. Such an active community focused on these issues impacts directly on the immediate visual image of the suburb which, in turn, helps maintain the rapidly growing values of Parkhurst properties.

That said, ensuring a consistent result is extremely difficult through volunteer and once-off efforts alone. For that reason, the Residence Association has initiated a project to provide staff and oversight to drive a clean Parkhurst.

A local resident’s business, Eunomix, has committed start-up sponsorship for this initiative. The initiative is then being further supported by the Parkhurst Hardware, providing tools and consumables, and the time and expertise of Andrew Cleland of Beatrout and Cyril Robertson of R & S Roofing. R & S Roofing already provide staff for regular cleaning of the Spruit at the 12th Street Pedestrian Bridge.

The Residents Association has also committed some funds to this initiative. However, we are seeking considerably more support if the initiative is to be maintained or have the reach we would like.

If you are interested in sponsoring this initiative (even a few Rand a month will help) or getting involved in any way, please contact Natalie Zimmelman at ceo@sasaweb.com
