The Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (PRABOA) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for both residents and businesses in Parkhurst. Through dedicated efforts and community engagement, PRABOA ensures that Parkhurst remains a thriving and well-managed suburb.

Community Support and Services

  • PRABOA is committed to providing comprehensive support and services to its contributing members and to the larger Parkhurst community on broader matters that affect all of us.
  • The association is managed by dedicated volunteers who are residents or business owners within Parkhurst as well as retained admin and  town planning support.
  • All activities and initiatives are guided by a love and  shared vision for the suburb.

Effective Communication

  • PRABOA maintains communication with its members and the wider Parkhurst community through various platforms, including WhatsApp, newsletters, emails, Instagram, and Facebook.

Property Integrity and Compliance

  • To safeguard property values and ensure zoning compliance, PRABOA actively defends the Precinct Plan and evaluates the impact of new Spatial Development Plans.
  • The association diligently monitors and responds to applications related to land use, zoning, and building plans.

Advocacy and Representation

  • PRABOA represents the interests of residents by collaborating closely with the Ward 117 Councillor and participating in Ward Committees.
  • The association works with the City of Johannesburg Region B Director offices to encourage and monitor  service delivery and adherence to municipal by-laws, addressing issues such as illegal signage and unauthorized street vendors

Safety and Security Inititives

  • PRABOA oversees a proactive community safety initiative  known as SafeParks, in partnership with a preferred security service provider, 24/7 Security.
  • SafeParks collaborates with Vumacam and 24/7 Security’s Smart Surveillance Control Room for comprehensive CCTV monitoring, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) for real-time alerts on vehicles of interest.
  • Through a service level agreement(‘SLA”) , SafePArks chosen Security company (24/7 Security currently)  provides continuous street patrols and swift responses to alarms, panic signals, and electric fence activations.
  • The initiative maintains strong ties with the South African Police Services (Parkview District), the Community Policing Forum, and other stakeholders like JMPD to effectively combat crime at the community level.

Community Development and Maintenance

  • PRABOA supports and maintains green spaces within Parkhurst and has officially adopted Verity Park.
  • The association actively monitors and reports infrastructure issues such as potholes, burst water pipes, faulty water meters, and non-functional streetlights to the relevant municipal departments for attention and timely resolution.

Additional Services for PRABOA Members

  • PRABOA support (support@parkhurst.org.za) is  available to address inquiries and concerns from members regarding specific city infrastructure / service delivery, issues that have been logged. These will be escalated and followed up on until resolution.
  • Members receive regular updates and important information regarding events, City services and security  through direct newsletters, emails, and WhatsApp communications.
  • PRABOA collaborates with local businesses to offer exclusive benefits and discounts to its members, fostering a supportive and connected community.

A strong and active membership base empowers PRABOA and SafeParks to effectively manage and enhance the wellbeing of Parkhurst for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Whilst your committee are dedicated volunteers, managing PRABOA and attending to the many issues facing our suburb- within the context of a crumbling City, comes with real costs. Our monthly expenses exceed R30,000!
All we are asking from our community at large to become formal PRABOA members and to receive the benefits described above is:

R150 a month* payable by monthly debit order or;
R1650 (discounted) once-off annual prepayment
