Shortly after connecting the first homes to the suburb’s fibre to the home network, The Parkhust Village announced a community initiative to further connect the suburb’s residents and visitors.
The Parkhurst PINKnic, which took place from 16h00 on Saturday, 24 January 2015 aimed at celebrating the power of a connected community – not only in terms of fibre Internet access, but also by bringing residents and visitors together to celebrate the very essence of Parkhurst life.
“We are all connected digitally – from Facebook to twitter to Whatsapp. Through the PINKnic, however, we aim to take this connectedness to a new level, by providing a platform for people to connect to each other in person in a relaxed setting,” said Cheryl Labuschagne, Chair of the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association.
Our beloved green heart of Parkhurst, Verity Park was turned pink for the late afternoon picnic and the weather gave us a glorious quintessential Joburg summer’s evening. Visitors came dressed in pink, and prizes were awarded for the best dressed picnickers. Thanks to our prize sponsors Parkhurst Opticien, Bonafide Beards and Hudson’s Burger Joint.
Visitors brought their own picnic baskets, and catering was also be available on the evening by The Counter, Breaside Meat Market, 4th Avenue Roasters, The Ice Cream Community and our very own Masterchef Alumni Philippa Robinson. In addition Graham Beck Wines and Steenberg Vineyards supplied a selection of methode cap classiques and wines while craft beers and ciders were sold by 11 Shillings Parkhurst Ale.
Our photo album from the event will be uploaded soon. Thank you to all the visitors who came and supported us on the evening. It was another great Parkhurst effort and resounding success.
