Annual General Meeting Reminder

This will be held at 18:30 on Thursday 11 October 2018

at the MOTH Hall corner 16 Street and 2 Avenue in Parkhurst.

A cash bar will be open.

The head of Visible Policing at the Parkview Police Station, Lt Col Ledwaba has promised to address us.

The formal notice of the meeting is on our website, and reports by the various committee members on their portfolios.  Please read these as they will not be read out at the meeting.

Committee members will answer questions, but it would help agenda planning if you could notify the chairperson in advance. Elections for the new PRABOA committee will also take place. Anyone willing to join the committee or just help is asked to contact the chairperson.

Please remind your friends and neighbours, in case they have missed the notices.

PRABOA Parkhurst SafeParks Safety Scheme

The PRABOA SafeParks team have agreed the 2018/19 tariff increases with our service provider Cortac. Our focus is to keep cost and price increases down to the minimum, without reducing the service. There are always cost increases we cannot avoid, especially as salaries and fuel costs are a substantial part of the cost. Cortac’s vehicles patrol 24 hours of the day. Last year (2017/18., we were fortunate that we did not have to ask for an increase for Public Space Security (PSS).  For the Home Alarm Armed Response (AR) portion, the increases were only R45 per month, effective from 1 November 2017.

PSIRA, the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority, have regulated a 6.7% salary increase, backdated to 1 April 2018. This and fuel cost rises necessitate our increasing both our PSS and AR rates.

These increases will be added to your Cortac debit order (both on new AR contracts and old Parksec contracts) as well as your PRABOA SafeParks agreement from 1 November 2018. Note that SafeParks and Cortac have ‘subsidised’ the increases for a few months up to then.

The new monthly rates are as follows:

Seniors (over 65)
  SafeParks contribution R 387.00 R 292.70
Membership R 30.00 R 12.00
Total PRABOA debit order  R 417.00 R 304.70
Alarm monitoring  (Cortac debit) R 382.00 R 382.00
Parksec debit (Cortac direct) R 799.00

The first debits at the new rates will be on 27 October 2018, for November 2018.

Some will compare these rates with those offered by some “armed response” companies operating in our community (even though they may claim to patrol). Because SafeParks is a combined community scheme, we are able to get guarantees of number of patrols, and of the quality, experience, training and equipment (including weapons) of Cortac’s officers. We also negotiate prices! We believe that the service is substantially better than the other companies: and, if not, we are able to engage directly with their senior management to get explanations and to remedy issues. Currently, there are a minimum of three double manned vehicles in the patrol area, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
